Sacred music can provoke, soothe, or instruct the listener to a transfigured state. All three combine in a benefit concert for Emmaus House, a Harlem based not-for-profit shelter and rehabilitation center. The night consists of selections from Rachmaninoff’s All Night Vigil featuring, The Canticum Novum Singers, with propers set by Reeves in the liturgical context of Orthodox Vespers, a first in this hemisphere. Presentations, testimonials, and information from and by Emmaus members are to follow; the evening concludes with other spiritual hymns. A sermon will be delivered by Fr. Chad Hatfield, Chancellor of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. All proceeds to benefit Emmaus House.
