The inaugural event of the Tour commences with a second look at a contemporary masterpiece. No Country for Old Men is Ethan and Joel Coen’s adaptation of a modern western and thriller depicting the effects of greed and the inevitability of mortality. Its suspenseful emotional content, seemingly opaque characters, and vastness of time and scenery are all allowed to shine through the subtlety of Carter Burwell’s minimal score. However, the co-directors’ initial inclination to present music with film in a more conventional pairing is unconventionally presented by a live orchestra featuring selections from Reeves’ Concerto á 3 as well as his rendering of the music of Schönberg and Verdi.
